Court Rules against New Mexico in Education Suit: Civil rights groups in New Mexico won their case against the state this week. The groups had sued the state, saying that the provided funding was not adequate to educate all students. Many educators across the state saw the ruling as something to herald and among those especially hopeful were people who work with the state’s Native American students. However, not all is decided and the state’s Education Department is planning to appeal the ruling.
NJ Gov Signs Funding Overhaul: On Tuesday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a law that would significantly change how New Jersey funds its schools. The bill is designed to end inequities in how schools are funded. While popular in some districts, others fret that the new law will mean that they receive less funds and legislators from those districts have begun to criticize the governor and the new law.
PA Teacher Investigated for Wrestling Persona: A teacher in the Spring-Ford Area School District is being investigated. The teacher drew international attention when it was learned that he moonlighted for the World Wide Wrestling Alliance with a persona named “Blitzkrieg: The German Juggernaut.” The wrestling persona has clear ties to Nazism, including giving the iconic Nazi salute. The district claims that the actions of the teacher’s wrestling persona do not represent the core values of the district.
