Currently Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are all bracing for possible impact from Hurricane Irma. The hurricane is massively wide and has broken records for strength and duration. If forecasts are right, it will hit the US weeks after Hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas’s gulf coast, the first time back-to-back hurricanes have hit the US coast.
Students and teachers dealing with the hurricane and its aftermath will have their time filled for weeks to come. However, the current situation provides a unique opportunity for those not in the path. Educators are often told to find and seize on those ‘teachable moments,’ and now is a teachable moment when it comes to hurricane and weather in general.
