Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. As educators, we are uniquely positioned to make an impact on our students' lives. As we begin to have conversations about the issues involved with preventing such tragedies, let us take a moment to appropriately address violence and trauma with our students. The U.S. Department of Education has issued several helpful resources from the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement. These guides aim to address helping students recover from traumatic events.
